What is Accure®?
The Accure® Laser is a breakthrough technology designed to treat mild to severe inflammatory acne vulgaris. Unlike traditional treatments that only address the symptoms, Accure targets the root cause of acne: overactive sebaceous (oil) glands.
Using a precise 1726 nm laser wavelength, Accure selectively heats and damages these oil glands while protecting the surrounding skin. By reducing the skin’s oil production, it effectively treats existing acne and prevents future breakouts.
Why Choose Accure?
- FDA-Cleared: Cleared for the long-term treatment of acne (new clearance as of Oct 2024).
- For All Skin Tones: Safe and effective for all Fitzpatrick skin types (I–VI).
- Drug-Free: An effective alternative to systemic medications (like Accutane) and antibiotics.
- Smart Safety: Features proprietary ‘treat‑to‑temperature’ control with real‑time thermal imaging to ensure safety and comfort.
How It Works
- Precision Targeting: The 1726 nm laser energy penetrates the skin to the specific depth of sebaceous glands (approx. 0.5–1.5 mm).
- Thermal Regulation: The system continuously measures your skin temperature, adjusting the laser pulses to reach a therapeutic endpoint without damaging the surface.
- Gland Reduction: The controlled thermal effect denatures the glands, significantly reducing sebum output.
- Healing: Over time, the reduction in oil leads to a sustained improvement in acne lesions and skin texture.
The Treatment Journey: What to Expect
At Niumee Clinic, we follow a rigorous standard of care to ensure your safety and results.
- Consultation & Preparation
Before your first session, you will undergo a comprehensive consultation, including a medical history review and a 3D Facial Scan to track your progress.
- Numbing: To ensure maximum comfort, we apply a high-strength topical anesthetic (lidocaine/tetracaine) which must sit for 60 minutes prior to lasering.
- Skin Prep: The area will be thoroughly cleansed and sterilized.
- Timings: Please allow approximately 80–90 minutes for a full facial appointment (including numbing and treatment time).
- During the Procedure
Most patients find the procedure tolerable. You may feel a warm sensation or mild stinging as the laser pulses, but the device utilizes forced-air cooling to keep the skin comfortable. Both you and the practitioner will wear protective eyewear throughout the session.
- Aftercare & Recovery
There is minimal downtime with Accure. You can typically return to normal activities immediately, though you should expect the following:
- Immediate reaction: Temporary redness and swelling (edema) are common and usually settle within 24–48 hours.
- Flare-ups: Some patients experience a temporary “purge” or minor acne flare-up shortly after treatment, which settles within a week.
Clinical Results
Accure is designed for durability. While individual results vary, clinical studies indicate:
- Rapid Improvement: Many patients notice improvements after the first session.
- Sustained Clearance: Studies report an average of 70–80% reduction in inflammatory lesions 6 months after completing the protocol.
- Clinical outcomes are consistently showing that results can remain visible for up to 2–3 years post‑series in a significant proportion of patients.
Recommended Course
- Sessions: 4 treatments.
- Interval: Spaced approximately 4 weeks apart.
- Maintenance: A follow-up is recommended 3 months after your final session to assess if maintenance is required.
Patient Guidelines
Pre-Treatment Instructions
- Shaving: If treating the face, beards must be shaved for the laser to be effective.
- Sun Exposure: Avoid sun tanning or solariums for 3–4 weeks prior to treatment.
- Retinoids: Stop using oral retinoids (unless supervised by a dermatologist) and topical active ingredients well in advance.
- Cold Sores: If you have a history of Herpes Simplex, prophylactic antiviral medication is recommended 5 days prior.
Post-Treatment Care
- Skincare: Avoid active ingredients (AHAs, BHAs, Retinoids, Scrubs) for 5 days post-treatment.
- Sun Protection: Daily broad-spectrum SPF is mandatory.
- Heat: Avoid heavy sweating, saunas, and hot showers for 24 hours.
