- How it works
Pico Laser Technology is an advanced and very effective laser technology. It is the laser used for tattoo removal. It works with ultra-short bursts of energy creating a photoacoustic reaction which shatters the tattoo ink into tiny ‘dust’-like particles that are easily eliminated by the body whilst leaving the surrounding tissues unheated and undamaged. - The Process
Tattoo removal by laser at Niumee can be performed more efficiently with the latest Pico Technology. The tattoo is often successfully removed over four to six treatments. Tattoo removal sessions are not recommended during the summer months, unless the treated area will not be exposed to the sun or a bandage is used to cover the treated area. - Why we love it
Produces faster and more successful results with minimal discomfort.

TREATABLE CONCERNS

Consultation: Schedule a consultation with our qualified and experienced cometic doctor to assess your tattoo, discuss expectations, and determine the number of sessions required.

Avoid Sun Exposure: Minimize sun exposure to the tattooed area for at least a few weeks before the treatment. Sunburned or tanned skin can increase the risk of complications.

Skin Preparation: Keep the skin in good condition by moisturizing regularly. Hydrated skin can respond better to the laser treatment.

Avoid Tanning: Refrain from artificial tanning methods, including tanning beds and self-tanning products, before the procedure.

Shave the Area: Shave the area with the tattoo a day or two before the treatment to ensure the laser reaches the ink directly without interference from hair.

Discontinue Self-Tanning Products: Stop using self-tanning products in the weeks leading up to the treatment, as these can affect the laser’s effectiveness.

Follow Aftercare Instructions: Strictly adhere to the aftercare instructions provided by the cosmetic doctor. This may include specific skincare routines and avoiding certain activities.

Keep the Area Clean: Gently clean the treated area with mild soap and water. Pat the skin dry; avoid rubbing or scrubbing.

Apply Antibiotic Ointment: If recommended by your technician, apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment to the treated area to prevent infection.

Avoid Sun Exposure: Protect the treated area from direct sunlight and UV exposure. Use sunscreen with high SPF when going outdoors.

Avoid Hot Showers and Saunas: Avoid hot showers, saunas, or activities that could cause excessive sweating for a few days after the treatment.

Do Not Pick or Scratch: Resist the urge to pick at scabs or peel the skin. Let the skin heal naturally to minimize the risk of scarring.

Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water to keep the skin hydrated and aid in the body’s natural healing process.

Wear Loose Clothing: Wear loose, comfortable clothing to prevent friction and irritation to the treated area.

Avoid Harsh Skincare Products: Avoid using harsh skincare products, exfoliants, or anything that may irritate the treated skin.

Attend Follow-Up Appointments: Attend any scheduled follow-up appointments with your cosmetic doctor to assess the healing progress and determine the need for additional sessions

Be Patient: Tattoo removal often requires multiple sessions, and visible results may take time. Be patient and continue following aftercare instructions for the best outcome.

We’ve Got Answers
Frequently asked questions on Tattoo Removal.
Does tattoo removal by laser hurt?
It is often described as an elastic band snapping on the skin. The laser used by Niumee is designed to minimise discomfort, as much as possible.
What results may be expected?
The tattoo will fade throughout a number of weeks following each session. The number of weeks will depend upon the client’s immune system. It is recommended that sessions are booked with a space of 8 weeks on most body parts, and 4 months on the arms and legs, to achieve the best value from the treatment.
What side effects should be expected?
During the treatment the tattoo may turn white, there will be some swelling and redness, and blisters may form. The redness usually only lasts for a few hours, will feel like mild sunburn and typically only hurts when touched.
Are long-term side effects possible?
Typically, there are no side effects, however there is a small risk of scarring. You should inform the doctor, at consultation phase, if you have a tendency to form abnormal scars like keloids. Hyperpigmentation (temporary darkening) is possible due to inflammation, however this should be temporary. Hypopigmentation (loss of skin colour) is more common in darker skin types.
Can all tattoos be removed?
The laser for tattoo removal may only be used on skin types I-IV, not V (Black/Afro-Caribbean skin types). Light tattoos, specifically those that contain blue and green ink, are more stubborn to remove. Yellow ink cannot be removed. How many treatment sessions are needed?
The number of sessions required depends on the tattoo being worked upon, however, a ballpark average would be between 4-6 sessions. During the initial consultation the aesthetic physician will recommend a number of sessions following individual assessment of the tattoo. Number of sessions generally depend upon the colour and age of the tattoo and the amount of ink used. Treated areas that are completely healed may be tattooed again.
