SinusKey MG007

SinusKey delivers advanced diagnostics for sinusitis, upper respiratory tract infections, and ear infections. It detects both bacterial and fungal pathogens, including those linked to chronic or recurrent cases where standard cultures often fail, such as after antibiotic use or in polymicrobial or slow-growing infections. The qPCR report quantifies bacterial load, identifies key pathogens, and screens for 17 antimicrobial resistance genes. The NGS report builds on this with high-resolution sequencing, identifying over 50,000 microbial species for broader pathogen insight and more informed treatment planning.

Methodology

SinusKey is analysed by Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (qPCR) and Next Generation Sequencing (NGS). These are complementary molecular biology techniques with distinct applications. qPCR is a sensitive and efficient method for quantifying the amount of specific DNA or RNA molecules in a sample. It amplifies target nucleic acid sequences using PCR and monitors amplification in real time using fluorescent probes or dyes. qPCR is widely used in gene expression analysis, pathogen detection, and genetic testing. NGS, on the other hand, is a high-throughput method that sequences millions of DNA fragments in parallel. It offers comprehensive and detailed information about the entire genome or specific genomic regions. NGS is utilised in genome sequencing, metagenomics, epigenetics, and cancer research. When combined, qPCR can validate and quantify NGS results, enhancing the accuracy and reliability of NGS data.

When should I consider this test?

Consider SinusKey for precise diagnostics of sinusitis, upper respiratory tract infections, and ear infections. It detects bacterial load, fungal pathogens, and antimicrobial resistance genes via qPCR and NGS, aiding treatment decisions in complex or unresolved cases. Ideal for recurrent infections and those unresponsive to standard therapies including:

For those with persistent symptoms: Recurring sinus pressure, nasal congestion, or ear discomfort may signal an ongoing infection; this test provides the diagnostic clarity to uncover the cause.

For chronic or recurrent sinusitis: Individuals dealing with long-term or returning symptoms can benefit from pathogen detection beyond what standard cultures reveal, especially after prior antibiotic use.

For patients unresponsive to standard treatments: When conventional therapies fall short, SinusKey can detect resistant or hard-to-culture microbes using qPCR and NGS, guiding more targeted interventions.

For comprehensive microbial insight: By combining targeted and broad-range testing, SinusKey offers an in-depth look at microbial load and diversity, helping practitioners manage complex or polymicrobial infections more effectively.
