Viral Screen MS2020

The Viral Screen test detects chronic infections by major herpes viruses (Epstein-Barr, Cytomegalovirus, Herpes Simplex 1 & 2). These viruses are linked to inflammatory, autoimmune, and neurodegenerative disorders.
Tested Biomarkers
  • Cytomegalovirus (CMV) IgG
  • Cytomegalovirus (CMV) IgM
  • Epstein-Barr Virus Viral Capsid (VCA) IgG
  • Epstein-Barr Virus Viral Capsid (VCA) IgM
  • Herpes simplex Virus (HSV) 1+2 IgG
  • Herpes simplex Virus (HSV) 1+2 IgM

Methodology

Immunosciences lab is certified by both CLIA and the College of American Pathologists. The laboratory utilises ELISA for conducting the Viral Screen test. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) is a widely used biochemical technique for detecting and quantifying the presence of antibodies, antigens, proteins, hormones, and other molecules in biological samples. In ELISA, a specific antigen or antibody is immobilized on a solid surface such as a microplate well. The sample containing the target molecule is added to the well, allowing any complementary molecules to bind to the immobilized antigen or antibody. After washing away unbound molecules, a secondary antibody conjugated with an enzyme is added, which binds specifically to the target molecule. Subsequent addition of a substrate for the enzyme leads to a colour change or fluorescence, which is measured spectrophotometrically. The intensity of the colour or fluorescence is directly proportional to the amount of target molecule present in the sample, enabling qualitative and quantitative analysis.

When should I you consider this test?

Consider this test for evaluating infections caused by EBV, CMV, HSV-1, HSV-2, and viral reactivation. Useful for patients with long COVID and inflammatory autoimmune and neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and neurological disorders such as Multiple Sclerosis, Guillain-Barré syndrome and more.
